Accelerating to the Future of the Edge - Ian Wells, Cisco
Edge computing has been rightly listed as a rising area of interest in the computing industry. The idea of "Edge Computing" has been constantly evolving over the past few years. At the same time, open source communities have begun to define projects supporting edge computing. The entire ecosystem is rapidly evolving, at the same time as it's being built.

In this talk, I'll want to take a step back and present a vision for what "Edge Computing" will look like in the next 5 years. The evolution of compute units from mainframes to bare metal to virtual machines to containers to functions has proven that the industry is moving faster than ever. I will present how this rapid evolution will change "Edge Computing" in the future, and how open source can help to drive this evolution.

Experience for Bringing up 800 Nodes NFV Cloud Using AUTO in China Mobile - Qiao Fu, China Mobile
We will share our experience for bring up an NFV cloud of 800 nodes using self-developed AUTO tools in Nanjing, China. The cloud is one of the resource pools that support the core network for China Mobile. It includes 800 x86 servers, and more than 150 network switches. Integrating such scale of NFV cloud requires huge work load, including configuring all the hardware, deploying multiple software, and verifying at each step to make sure no error will bring to the next level. In order to improve the efficiency and quality of integration, China Mobile develops an automatic integration and testing platform: AUTO. With AUTO, we reduce the whole integration period by almost one month.
We will share a demo video we took during the integration procedure in Nanjing, in which AUTO is configuring and checking the hardware and network connections, and within 30min, 641 errors are detected.

Android at the Edge - Melissa Evers-Hood, Intel Corporation
As cloud architectures continues to gain prominence, it is extending from cloud all the way to the device edge. There are many benefits to device and edge in cloud software infrastructure, but there are also differentiated challenges- a UI for example! The prevalence of this migration to device with cloud software is seen across LF Edge projects. Many folks are looking to bring the exceptionally popular device operating system, Android, to these cloud architectures in either VM or Containerized implementations. This drive for workload consolidation and convergence presents enormous opportunities ( >2M app ecosystem, robust tooling, Google services) as well as challenges (certification, performance tuning, security). We will review LF Edge projects and pathfinding development done with AOSP and show demos of Android in a variety of scenarios.

Use Case: The Policeman's Camera is on Duty with Akraino+EdgeX Technology Embedded - Xuan Jia, China Mobile
Akraino provides the basic edge cluster and Edgex could provide the camera capability. We integrate with these two open-source projects and do a use case about the policeman's camera under 5G environment.

Here is the story: when a policeman is walking in the street, there will be a small camera which hangs on his breast pocket. It could record the video and send the stream into the edge server, then we do face recognition in the edge server. At the last, policeman's cellphone will get to know when suspect shows up.

In this presentation, I will share how we integrate Akraino and edgex. In the edge cloud, we deploy china mobile edge computing platform to do AI analysis. This platform is based on Kubernetes, it provides GPU and AI capability to fulfill this use case's requirement.

Through this use case, we can confirm that Akraino and EdgeX can be integrated with each other and work properly.
